We're about two hours away from getting results from West Virginia's primary. Sen. Hillary Clinton is expected to win by a landslide, but it won't be enough to make any headway in the delegate count. If anything, Sen. Barack Obama's failure is indicative of the fact that he needs to do more to court blue-collar workers in economically depressed states like West Virginia.
West Virginia used to be solidly Democratic, and only went red in 2000. While not a big state, it has its importance. Had Al Gore won there in 2000, he'd have been president, even with ...
Two nights ago as I was leaving the library at around 2:00 a.m. I saw the outline of what I thought to be an Opossum crossing my path, until I got close enough to it to realize it was a skunk. Upon seeing me it slowly raised it’s large, bushy tail up in the air, the white stripes now visible, its Tina Turner-esque froo-froo trembling in the moonlight. I slowly retreated.
Conflict avoided, it again turned towards the bush that had been its previous destination, lazily ambling in its polecat gate.
My curiosity not quite satiated, I decided to once ...
So it didn't really hit me that I'm graduating in less than two weeks until two days ago, when I went for a late jaunt on campus.
It was a cool spring night. As I headed out my door, I took the same route I've taken every day for the last two years to campus. Past the wooden Buddha, past the Chi Omega fountain where a group of kids were playing in the water. Past the Campanille tower, whose white hat seemed to match the moon.
And then I realized...I'm actually, really, 100%, going to graduate. And the next time ...
Now with my video game addiction story out of the way, my focus shifts to my finals. Yeah right. I’m pumped for my summer in Philadelphia.
This summer I will be a copyediting intern The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philly’s largest newspaper.
It’s going to be a weird switch, going from growing up in the 2,000-person Southeast Kansas town of Humboldt to working on the East coast in the country’s sixth most populous city, with more than 5 million people. Lawrence, with a population of 80,000, was a strange enough switch for me.
I’m still a country boy. I’m going from ...
Good journalists are like buzzy bees. Publishing is pollination. We create a sweet, healthy product (best consumed in moderation). A queen bee leads the newsroom hive. Snoopiness is a stinger (and we die if we lose it).
And, like bees, journalists are a dying (b)r(ee)d. But it's not cell phones, fungi or pesticides that kill us - our demise lurks in the World Wide Spiderweb. Good thing I've been tangled up in the Internet since pizza.com was an available domain.
Most of my college courses have revolved around writing. Indeed, I very much like the writing ...
"Yoooou!" Are not going to believe this one. Alright, so for those of you who don't follow the NBA, The Washington Wizards and the Cleveland Caviliers are facing off in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. After Washington got demolished by Lebron and the Cavs, Wizards player DeShawn Stevenson said Lebron was quote "overrated." Everyone has their opinon, but I personally believe you have to be considered a good player to be making comments like that. And even then, I wouldn't approve it. Why the need for trash talk?
Well, Lebron simply responded by saying ...
The Bush administration seems to think that Osama Bin Laden is in Pakistan. They are wrong. He is cowering behind the auction house in Orgrimmar. From there he leads a vast terror network stretching from Kalimdor to the Eastern Kingdom and even into Outland. When he and his followers aren't plotting the downfall of the West they are raiding Molten Core. As ridiculous as all of this sounds, that is what the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity group, a US government funded program, has come to believe.
The Washington Post did a ...

DETROIT -
Kansas leads Villanova, 24-10 with 11:42 left, 1st half.
How 'bout Russell Robinson? It's a different kind of urgency for seniors. Guys like Rush, Arthur, Chalmers -- they might not be back next year. But there's always that chance. If KU loses, Robinson is done.
You can tell he knows that tonight. He's got 13 of Kansas' first 24 points.

Kansas leads 11-6, with 15:51 to play first half.
Initial thoughts:
-Darrell Arthur picks up the early foul... and he could have two.

The web is ever-changing. Why should Kansan.com be any different? One of the great things about my job as the Kansan's Web Director is that I have at my disposal the tools to make our web edition better and better. But it is a gift, and a curse. A major hurdle for me is coming up with more ideas of how to improve.
As I talked about in my last post, Kansan.com has gotten some great upgrades to it's features and content. I've fulfilled a few of my goals for the semester, and have even more down the road. ...
Roderick Bremby, the secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, is speaking tonight at 7 p.m. at the Dole Institute on West Campus.
This past October, Bremby denied the Holcomb coal project the permits it needed because of concerns about carbon dioxide emissions. He truly put Kansas on the map as a leader in changing our mindsets about global warming. Since then, both the Kansas House and the Senate have tried to push bills through to severely limit the secretary’s power in being able to regulate environmental policy and look out for the health of Kansans.
This man ...
