Flash not coming to iPhones after all?

Adobe and Apple should settle their tiff with a cage match.

A few weeks ago I posted a rumor about Adobe's Flash coming to the iPhone Safari. That day may be farther off than anticipated. According the Apple Insider there are some serious issues with integrating the popular Web 2.0 tool. Most of the troubles seem to hinge around the fact that the iPhone and iPod touch represent a different sort of environment than on a traditional computer.

Apple has been pushing the power of other technologies such as CSS and JavaScript. While these are powerful tools and have the added benefit of my actually knowing how to use them, a lot of things that Flash can do they can't replicate.

Ultimately, Apple seems more of less finished with trying to port Flash on its own and has put the ball firmly in Adobe's court as to whether the iPhone OS will ever support it.

Interestingly, Apple has shown some willingness to work with Microsoft in this area. Microsoft has been pushing a new Flash alternative called Silverlight. Maybe Microsoft can pull off an acceptable port where Adobe has offered bubkus.

Edit:

In other iPhone news, Apple is holding a press event in Cupertino tomorrow. The iPhone SDK is expected to premier at the event. If you are interested in a live-blog of the event Wired Magazine's Gadget Lab Blog does a pretty good job. Unfortunately I am not a big enough name to warrant an invitation to the event and I doubt the Kansan would foot the bill for airfare, so I'll be reading the blogs just like everyone else. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Edit, again:

For those who aren't willing to wait around for Wired to post, Gizmodo is another good alternative. They tend to post a little more often.
