One of the year's most awaited games won't play on some consoles.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a big deal. It not playing on some Wii hardware is a bigger deal. Apparently the problems began last month when the game released in Japan. Around three precent of Japanese Wiis can't run the disk and instead give a disk read error when it you try and play it. Nintendo attributed the failures to dusty lenses on the lasers of the Wii's disc drives.
The video-game blog Kotaku did some reporting and found out that the fable was only true in a minority of cases. The bulk of the failures were brought on by bad CD drives that cannot read the Double-Layer disk needed to house the newest Super Smash Bros.
The dust on the lenses half-truth aside, Nintendo wants to do the right thing on this one. Faulty systems can be mailed back to Nintendo for servicing, similar Microsoft's solution to the infamous "red ring of death" problems plaguing XBox 360s. With any luck the Wii failures will not reach the same frequency as the red ringers.
Anyone out there having problems with their Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl? Holler out in the comments!
P.S.
Everyone's favorite alternative browser got its newest update today, as of a few hours ago. Firefox 3 beta 4 is alive and kicking. It clearly works because I am posting using it right now.
P.P.S.
I can now personally confirm the Smash Bros. disk read failures. A friend of mine had the issue, but thankfully he "convinced" it to work after some "persuasion." It hasn't been an issue since he first put the disk in. Persistence and patience may work as well as sending it back to Nintendo, at least it couldn't hurt.

I didn't have any problems with my Super Smash Brothers but OH MAN it's the funnest game on the Wii so far!! I especially like how Wario has a motorcycle he can throw at people and that he can bite other characters' heads off.
It's great that you didn't put "Wiis." After all, the "official" name for multiple Wii is "Wii systems." Laaaaaaaame. Wii-wiis.
The hardest part about writing about anything technology related is the spelling and pluralization. Wii is one of those made up words that you can never really have a pluralization for that looks good and reads well.
My super smash bros. brawl disc is unreadable, this is angering me, but the thing is it reads it sometimes. sometmes i can play the game, other times i can't, please help me.
I have the same problem. It started out sporadic like jordannnn's problem. However, now it won't read at all. Every other game plays fine. I looked on the back of the cd at the code, and it seemed kind of odd. It says RVL-RSBE-0B-1 JPN. Isn't this a Japanese region code? All of my other discs have a string of letters and stuff followed by USA, not JPN. The sticker on the front says RVL-006(USA).
