Will Ferrell takes another successful stab at a sports comedy.

Earlier today, I saw the new Will Ferrell comedy "Semi-Pro" at the request of a good friend who wanted me to see it with him. I wanted to see it, but I could have waited until it was on rental. I don't know, I wasn't a fan of last year's "Blades of Glory" and I think Ferrell has pushed the sports-comedy genre as far as it can go.
For those like me who were not impressed with 'Blades of Glory,' fear not. 'Semi-Pro' is actually worth checking out. Now by no means is it a great film, but it's entertaining. You know what to expect of Will Ferrell by now-his "stupid and sarcastic" sense of comedy.
Andre Benjamin, better known as Andre 3000 of rap group OutKast, gives a solid performance. I definitely think based on the films I've seen of his, he's a good actor. He did a good job as a supporting cast member alongside Ferrell and Woody Harrelson. Harrelson was okay I guess too, but no Earth-shattering performance.
The point is, don't be so quick to judge the film. Yes, Ferrell is yet again doing another sports comedy. 'Semi-Pro' is better than 'Blades of Glory' and could possibly be up there with 'Talladega Nights,' but probably a notch below it.
Hopefully Ferrell is done with this genre, his next film is a comedy titled 'Step Brothers' alongside 'Dewey Cox' star John C. Reily and the always rumored 'Old School 2,' although I think the latter of the two fizzled out any hopes shortly after Vince Vaughn made 'The Breakup.'
I'll give this one 3 out of 5 stars because although Ferrell has been getting old lately, I found myself laughing quite often through this one. If you're a fan of Ferrell, you'll like it. If not, stay away, it's probably not something you'll enjoy.

I was quick to discount this movie as just another one of Ferrell's attempts at a money-making comedy.. perhaps I'll check it out after all! I do love a lot of his work, but he's been making a lot of flicks lately that look the same on the outside. Maybe that's the point?
Ya, I think the whole sports comedy thing has had success for him, at least with Talleda Nights and he tried to capitalize on that. 'Semi-Pro' is worth seeing, but if you're not a big Ferrell fan, than wait for it to come out on DVD. I really am hoping they again toy with the idea of 'Old School 2' which I've read through some buzz that says it's called 'Project X'. We will have to see..
