If you’re looking for a new fast food item to sink your teeth into, the new Popeye’s chicken sandwich has ignited a fast food frenzy. This year through July 2019, before the Popeye’s sandwich craze, Americans ordered 2.3 billion breaded chicken sandwiches in fast food restaurants, according to the NPD Group. In Lawrence, the result was hungry patrons waiting hours for the sandwich when it first released.
“I went on the first day it came out,” says KU junior Travis Lenz. “I only had to wait about thirty minutes.”
But what is the answer to the ultimate question? How does the chicken sandwich stack up against other fast food chicken sandwiches?
“In terms of taste I will say I think for me personally it has edged the Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich,” says KU senior Ethan Artzer. However, more needs to be done to bring him over for good. “I think Popeye’s needs to step up their sauce and fry game because Chick-Fil-A has better sauce, and the waffle fries are better than any of Popeye’s sides,” Artzer says.
Lenz, on the other hand, had a different opinion on the subject of sauce.
“I’m a big fan of mayonnaise on chicken sandwiches, so that’s why I liked it better than Chick-Fil-A,” he says.
After taste testing for myself, the Popeye’s chicken sandwich easily bests Chick-Fil-A in the taste department. If you’re looking for something new, or just want to mix up your fast food routine after a class-filled day, the Popeye’s chicken sandwich could be for you.
