A fire at Colony Woods Apartments caused about $3,000 worth of damages early Monday morning.

The fire broke out on a balcony in building F. Only the deck and some vinyl siding on the building’s exterior suffered damage, said Mark Bradford, chief of the Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Department.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

The Fire Department responded to the call at 5:23 a.m., after the occupant of the apartment called to report a fire. Fire fighters arrived at the scene and found the fire on a wooden balcony, not inside the apartment.

The fire was ruled accidental in nature and was believed to have been started by an “inappropriate discharge of smoking material,” Bradford said.
