Baseball drops two of three to Missouri

Kansas jumped out to an early lead in today's game against Missouri, before allowing the Tigers to rally and post a 4-3 victory in the series finale in Columbia, Mo.

Kansas posted a rare victory against the Tigers yesterday behind the pitching of Mike Zagurski. Zagurski pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits and just three earned runs in the 9-3 Kansas victory. Third basemen Erik Morrison and pinch hitter Andy Scholl each recorded two RBI, while four other Jayhawks had one RBI each.

On Friday, the Jayhawks got a strong pitching performance from Sean Land through four full innings before Missouri proved too much in the bottom of the fifth. For their part, the rest of the Jayhawks managed just two hits throughout the entire rest of the game. Missouri won the opening contest 8-0.

Kansas has just one series remaining in the regular season. The Jayhawks will face the Cowboys of Oklahoma State in three games this weekend. Kansas currently sits in the middle of the Big 12 Conference, high enough to secure a bid to the Big 12 Tournament. A series victory against Oklahoma State would be enough to secure their admission to the tournament, however a series loss would make things more interesting.

Only ten Big 12 schools sponsor baseball teams. The top eight programs make the conference tournament.
