NEW: Jayhawks get defensive
Despite a sluggish offensive performance, Kansas defeated Toledo 68-58 Saturday at Kemper Areana in Kansas City, Mo. The Jayhawks were led by sophomore guard Brandon Rush who broke out of a recent shooting slump and scored 19 points.

First half was not fun for Jayhawks
Coach Bonnie Henrickson switched around the line-up later in the game to help her team adjust to the Jackrabbits' fast pace , but it wasn't enough to pull the Jayhawks through. The team lost 53-48.

Roundworms used in cancer research
The research, which is being performed by Erik Lundquist and Lisa Timmons, is attempting to find discoveries about genes in the roundworms that can be applied to human genes. The roundworms are used because they are cheap and easy to grow.

Senior football player arrested
Jerome Kemp is charged with auto burglary, theft and criminal damage to property. He turned himself into police Monday and remains in jail in lieu of a $2,250 bond.
Students spend time coaching children
Student volunteers from the University of Kansas coach ten of the 90 teams playing in the Lawrence Parks and Recreation winter basketball league. Others coach swimming, soccer and other sports.
Archeology students share findings
Members of the KU Archeological Field School presented their research as part of the final Archeological Exploration event of the semester. The students spent most of last June exploring the Claussen and Kanorado archeological sites.

Christmas shoppers come out despite cold weather
Slick roads and temperatures dropping to 16 degrees didn't stop Lawrence residents from starting their Christmas shopping this weekend. Retailers predict that despite the dropping temperatures, people will still be headed to the stores this season.
Audience sings along at 'Joy to All the World'
The audience was asked to lend their voices at the 82nd annual Holiday Vespers on Sunday night at the Lied Center. The event showcased holiday songs performed by the Symphonic Choir.
Fraternity sends care packages to troops
Beta Theta Pi fraternity is sending an assortment of toiletries, magazines, calling cards and gift cards to 14 army battalions fighting overseas. Several local businesses donated to the cause.

Kansas State fan bus driver improperly licensed at time of crash
The driver of the Cat Tracker fan bus did not have the appropriate license to operate the bus when he was in an accident on Nov. 18 that killed one. He also had previously been arrested for a DUI offense in November 2003.
