A man suspected of two counts of arson and aggravated arson in Lawrence locations, including one at the University of Kansas, was convicted Monday in Douglas County District Court.
David Jay, 26, pleaded no contest to the charges, according to District Attorney Charles Branson. Jay was accused of using starter logs in the “stacks” area of Watkins Library. He was also accused of placing a starter log by the backdoor of one Lawrence business, and throwing another starter log onto the roof of another.
Jay has a history of arson in Johnson County. He was convicted on thirteen counts of arson in Johnson County District Court and he received a sentence of six years and four months. Branson requested that the Douglas County case run consecutively with the Johnson County convictions.
