The Big 12 Conference men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will return to Kansas City, Mo., in 2008, the conference announced Monday. The announcement was made after University presidents met in Kansas City, Mo. The conference also announced that San Antonio will be the host of the 2007 Big 12 football championship game.
Kansas City,Mo., which was once the tournament’s home — including when it was the Big 8 Conference and for the first six years of the Big 12 Conference’s existence — was bypassed in favor of Dallas last year and Oklahoma City for the upcoming season.
The men’s tournament will be held at the $276 million Sprint Center, scheduled for completion in the fall 2007. The women’s tournament will be held at Municipal Auditorium.
The conference is discussing making Kansas City the permanent home of the Big 12 tournaments.
