Sabath hired as Fort Hays State head coach

Fort Hays State announced the hiring of former Kansas assistant baseball coach Rick Sabath to be its head coach on Friday, bringing Sabath back to his alma mater.

Sabath spent the past season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator on the Kansas staff. However, Sabath has several years of head coaching experience.

From 2002-2005, Sabath compiled a 107-67 record as head coach at Garden City Community College. From 2000-2002, Sabath was the head coach at Cloud County Community College. While at CCCC, Sabath was named the 2001 Jayhawk West Division Coach of the Year.

By accepting the head coaching position at FHSU, Sabath returns to the school where he played baseball from 1992-1993 and graduated in 1994.

Sabath takes over a FSHU squad that finished the 2006 season with a 46-17 record and NCAA Division II West Regional appearance. The Tigers will play their first season in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association next season.
