Senior Amanda Costner made Kansas history Wednesday in Waco, Texas.
She became the first Jayhawk golfer to win the Big 12 Championship.
Costner also recorded Kansas’ only other top 10 individual finish in 2004 when she finished seventh. She led the tournament after the first day, eventually winning by four strokes over Nebraska’s Eli Brown.
“I cannot tell you how happy I am to see that my hard work has paid off,” Costner said in a press release. “Some days you do not necessarily want to go out there, but when you do, and I get this win, it makes it all worth it.”
She shot a five-over-par 77 in the final round, shooting two birdies and getting par on 10 holes.
Her coach, Erin O’Neil, said she was happy to see Costner keep her head level throughout the tournament.
“Handling the pressure is always hard going into the final round with everyone gunning for you.” O’Neil said. “She kept her composure, and finished strong with a birdie — that says a lot.”
As a team, Kansas finished ninth, with a three-day score of 945.
Junior Annie Giangrosso finished in a tie for 32nd and freshman Emily Powers finished in a tie for 42nd. Freshmen Camilla Svensson and Meghan Gockel finished with a three-day scores of 245 and 249, respectively.
