School of Fine Arts dean
stepping down next year Steve Hedden will step down from dean of the School of Fine Arts at the end of the academic year, but will continue teaching at the University.
Hedden was named dean in 2003, and has been at the University for five years. During his time as dean, Hedden helped increase the amount of external funding, establish new degrees and additional faculty positions and raised money to replace the marching band uniforms. A national search will begin this fall to hire a new dean by next school year.
“I look forward to my new opportunities as part of the energetic and extraordinarily talented faculty here,” Hedden said in a press release.

Enrollment deadline moved up to Sept. 13
The deadline for adding classes for students has been moved up to Sept. 13, the 20th day of classes, from Dec. 7.
“Most students are already enrolled, so it won’t really help or hurt them,” Cindy Derritt, University Registrar, said.
This policy has been on the books for years, but has not been enforced, Derritt said. When the registrar’s office discovered that they weren’t in compliance with the policy, they took the case to University Governance, which decided that they needed to change the deadline.
