The Lawrence City Commission approved a domestic partner registry Tuesday night after the second and final reading of the ordinance. The decision was made without discussion. The ordinance, which allows homosexual couples to register with the city, thereby acknowledging their relationships, was approved on a 4-1 vote. City commissioner Mike Amyx voted against the ordinance. The ordinance will become law on August 1 and will be the first and only of its kind in Kansas.
