With all of the attention on teams who didn’t make the tournament, several aspects of the bracket are easily overlooked. Kansas State didn’t make the tournament? Boo-hoo. Drexel didn’t make it either? That’s just one less no-name team that Kansas has to worry about in the early rounds.
No one has mentioned how ridiculous it is that Florida jumped to the overall number one seed even though no one had them as a number one seed going into championship week and they played three bad teams to win the SEC. There is no explanation for Ohio State losing the top seed along with the right to play in the Midwest region. Ohio State is the only team in a power conference with only three losses. Ohio State’s losses all come against teams ranked in the top 25 of the RPI; against teams 26-100 in the RPI they are a perfect 10-0.
Not to mention the fact that of Ohio State’s last five games, two have been against an opponent ranked in the top five of both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today polls. Kansas, also, in its last four games has twice faced an opponent ranked in the top 15 in both polls. To find Florida’s last game against a ranked opponent you would have to go back 10 games to their defeat of the University of Kentucky. Florida’s last ranked opponent before Kentucky was 22 games ago.

How did Kansas get dropped to the fourth number one seed and shipped off to play in the West with a number two seed who never leaves their home state?
How did Kansas get dropped to the fourth number one seed and shipped off to play in the West with a number two seed who never leaves their home state? The Jayhawks are riding an 11 game winning streak, including two comebacks against Texas in which they were down 19 and 22 points respectively. Yet, Florida and UNC have been nothing but inconsistent the last several weeks, with three losses each in their last 10 games. However, they both jumped Kansas, and in Florida’s case, jumped everyone.
Because of their weak and inconsistent finishes Florida and UNC should be the bottom two number one seeds, sending the worse of the two to California, the better to stay in the East, Ohio State to stay in the Midwest, and Kansas to play in the South. The seeding should be done on what happened this year, not who won last year.
