Despite recent closings of several local galleries, art still lives in Lawrence. At 7 p.m. tonight, check out the SEED artists’ lecture series at 4-1-1 Studio, 411 E. Ninth St. The monthly SEED lectures, which are free and open to the public, are a gathering place for anyone interested in local and contemporary art. This month’s featured artist is Shawn Bitters, a local printmaker, who will give a 30–40 minute lecture and then answer questions about his work.
SEED began as an alternative way for local artists to display their work, according to founder Leslie vonHolten. She says that art needs a community for inspiration and growth, and that SEED is a forum that brings artists face to face with their community.
