Student fees fund changes around campus

$30 fee increase will provide for newer, cleaner buses, more wireless

Student Senate raised student fees by $54.75 this semester. Some of that money will be used to set off inflation, but $30 will be used to pay for several things, including newer buses, SafeBus, the Sabatini Multicultural Resource Center and wireless expansion.

Baseball struggles to qualify for tournament

Kansas faces Kansas State at home on Saturday

The baseball team is the defending Big 12 conference champion, but the team is still trying to make this year's tournament. Kansas plays Kansas State at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in Lawrence.

The Spencer Student Advisory Board holds events like student night to attract students who normally wouldn't visit the galleries and attend the lectures. This year KJHK provided the entertainment for those who attended last night's event.

Mars lander prototype ready for takeoff

Engineering students face toughest mission of year

Despite skepticism from professors, a class of 16 optimistic engineering students are anticipating their Lander's mission next Saturday. With a $2,500 budget, the students designed a prototype to fall 500 feet from a helium-filled balloon by parachute, fire three simple model rocket engines to slow its decent and softly land upright at a Clinton Lake radio control airfield.

Graduate students Shannon Williams and Jenn Holtaway have organized a demonstration this Saturday afternoon in South Park to raise awareness of a national problem called "bum bashing." In 2006, 142 random attacks were reported nationwide, two of which were in Lawrence.

Jason Allen Rose said that he lit a piece of paper containing the phone number of a man named "Stan" on fire in the Boardwalk Apartment complex on the night of the deadly fire two years ago. Rose is accused of starting the fire. His attorney says he was coerced during questioning.
