Abortion is an issue riddled with philosophical implications. The point at which a group of cells can rightfully have “humanness,” the value of human life and others are all interesting to debate. It’s a fascinating subject to think about, but abortion goes beyond syllogisms.
There is a massive difference between arguing “Rationalism vs. Empiricism” and abortion.

In the abortion debate, it is easy to forget that real people are affected.
In the abortion debate, it is easy to forget that real people are affected. It is also easy to forget that the opposing sides care deeply about the mothers; the real difference lies in the solution to the problem of an unwanted pregnancy.
I’m all for universal health care. Adoption agencies and foster homes are not as good as children deserve. I’d even be for having a universal maternal care program.
No sane person would argue that pregnancy is easy. Even before they “gain personhood,” babies take a lot of time and money — but so do I being here at the University of Kansas. The solution is to help with the effects, not abort the cause.
But if abortion is continued to be seen as just another means to lead a lifestyle without regard for the consequences, I am only reminded of the words of Mother Teresa:
“It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish.”

Letter to the Editor: Abortion philosophy
would someone please develop a method to bottle the energy and rage that hermeshcick vents all intimations that threaten a pro feminist social adgenda. if a method could be found, it is without doubt we could solve the world energy crisis. strike that, we could power a few solar systems. please find some peace heremes.. or at least redirect your hynotic rage at those who may possibly bare the creation of your unrest. (father maybe?) to re-address the topic, it is clear that this author is pointing out the philisophical fallicies that lie within the court derived ruling that we abide with today. he is not making the case that abortions need to be swept away carte blanch. we, as a society, need to path a much more humanistic approach to caring for and protecting the unborn becuase our current method is despotically unfair. like lyposuction, steriods, atomic weapons, medicare, shifty politicians, and tuition refund checks, shouldn't abortion be relied on as a very last resort to protect a woman's safety? why do we allow this mortifying medical procedure to scar untold numbers of women and simultaneously rend the fabric of our communities apart? to not address this philisophical inconsistancy with a more humanitarian law will only continue to harm us more.
