A quiet, drug-loving hippie. That is what Jon Hartner, Barrington, Ill. sophomore, thought Jordan Bender, Sterling sophomore, was, when they first met. Hartner was a freshman living in Ellsworth Hall when he met Bender, who lived in Lewis Hall. Hartner says everyone was almost scared of him because he looked like Jesus incarnate. A couple weeks after meeting, Hartner learned that Bender, in fact, was no hippie. “I don’t know why they thought that for a long time because I hate hippies,” Bender says. He drives around in a big Buick aiming for hippies, Hartner says. They are roommates now.
