Improv Comedy: “Kansas vs. Missouri”
Tired of watching the Kansas-Missouri Border Showdown fought on sports fields? Then visit Vermont Street BBQ, 728 Massachusetts St., at 10 p.m. Saturday to enjoy an improv comedy face-off between Missouri and Kansas comics. One of the directors of the show, KU alumnus Timmy Mark, said there was nothing like “watching a story created on the spot.” Come join in this humorous celebration of cultural differences. Tickets for the 18-and-older show cost $8.
KU Student Sunday
If students want a chance to be a part of history and tradition in Lawrence while spending an enjoyable time with the St. Luke family, stop by this Sunday for a service specially designed for KU students. Don’t forget to bring a hungry stomach because a delicious home-cooked meal will be served after the worship service. The purpose of this Sunday’s event is to break down the town divide. Maryemma Graham, a professor of English and a St. Luke member, said that the event was a step toward bridging the gap between East and West Lawrence. St. Luke Ame Church, 900 New York St., is playing host to the event.
Latin Evening
Students interested avoiding the sweaty clubs and rowdy bars, might enjoy an elegant Saturday night party at the Thai House with KU’s Latin community. The dress code is dress to kill, in black, white or both. The event coordinator, Betsy Copeland, a Leonardville senior and president of Sigma Lambda Gamma, described the dinner as “a celebration of diversity.” The party is a benefit to raise funds for the Latin Studies Conference which will be held in February. Free champagne for those who are old enough to drink and a chocolate fountain are just a few of the goodies the benefit will provide. Arrive ready to move your hips to DJ Panama’s infectious Latin tunes and American favorites. Doors will open at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $10 for those 21 and older and $12 for those 18 and older.
