The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted former Kansas cornerback Aqib Talib with the 20th pick in the NFL Draft. Tampa Bay chose Talib with its only first-round pick.
Talib is the first Jayhawk to be selected in the NFL Draft since David McMillan was drafted by Cleveland in the fifth round in 2005. Dana Stubblefield, selected 26th in 1993, was the last Jayhawk to be taken in the first round.
Talib started 32 games at Kansas, earned unanimous All-America honors last season and won the FedEx Orange Bowl MVP award.
The Cincinnati Bengals waited until the second day of the draft to pick up former Kansas offensive tackle Anthony Collins. Cincinnati drafted Collins with the 13th pick in the fourth round, the 112th overall pick. Collins, a 317-pound first-team All-American, projects as a right tackle in the NFL. He was the ninth offensive tackle taken in the draft.
Former Kansas tight end Derek Fine was drafted by the Buffalo Bills with the 33rd pick of the fourth round. Fine, a 245-pound player who started at Kansas for three years, came off of the draft board earlier than analysts projected. Fine was the 10th tight end selected.
The New York Jets selected former Jayhawk wide receiver Marcus Henry with the fifth pick of the sixth round. Henry came on strong late in his Kansas career, leading Kansas with 1,014 receiving yards and 10 touchdown receptions. Henry was the 171st overall pick.
