Kansas to play Minnesota in Insight Bowl

At a press conference Friday afternoon, coach Mark Mangino and the Kansas Jayhawks accepted a bid to play in the Insight Bowl on Dec. 31 in Tempe, Ariz. On Sunday, Minnesota accepted its bid to the Insight Bowl.

This will be the Jayhawks' seventh game against the Golden Gophers and the first since 1973. The series started in 1893 and it's currently deadlocked at 3-3.

Tickets for the Insight Bowl are now available through the kuathletics.com and the box office. There are 10,500 tickets on sale for KU fans. The cost is $25 for students and $55 for general public.

The game takes place at Sun Devil Stadium, the home of Arizona State University.

Kansas will enter the game at 7-5, including a thrilling victory over No. 12 Missouri to end its regular season. This is the first time in school history that Kansas will play back-to-back bowl games.

Minnesota is also 7-5, but the Golden Gophers are riding a four-game losing streak. First year coach Tim Brewster led his squad to 7-1 and a top 25 ranking. Since then, Minnesota has struggled to find any consistency on offense. The Golden Gophers ended their season on Nov. 22 with a 55-0 home loss to Iowa.

This sucks because NFL Network holds the rights to the Insight Bowl. Which means unless arrangements are made, a ton of Kansas folk will not be able to see the game in their own homes.
