For interviews with Kansas fans who also cheer for other teams, listen to the podcast: Rooting for the right team.
Fans of all seasons
Kansan reporter Luke Morris talks to a number of Kansas basketball enthusiasts and finds who they cheer for when Kansas isn't playing.
He found five basic categories of fans:
Hometown fans, who root for the team closest to where they grew up.
Rival haters, who have two favorite teams: Kansas and whoever is playing Missouri.
The greater-good fan, who root for teams that would improve Kansas’ standings in the Big 12 Conference.
Fans of individuals, who cheer for a team because they like a coach or player on the team.
In-state fans, who prefer to keep it all in the state. They cheer for Kansas State as long as the Wildcats aren’t playing the Jayhawks.
