ESPN just can’t get enough of the Jayhawks lately.
A week after the network announced Lawrence was one of the 20 finalists for its ‘TitleTown’ competition, the Kansas basketball team was nominated for two ESPY awards tonight.
The Jayhawks were nominated for the “Best Team” and “Best Game,” for the comeback victory in the national championship against Memphis.
Kansas faces stiff competition in both categories. Other finalists for “Best Team” include the NBA champion Boston Celtics, NFL champion New York Giants and NHL champion Detroit Red Wings.
The other two contests up for “Best Game” are the Super Bowl between the New York Giants and New England Patriots and game four of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers.
Fans determine the winner for every category in the ESPYs by voting at www.espys.tv.
The ESPYs is ESPN’s annual awards show. The ceremony will take place Wednesday July 16th in Los Angeles this year and will air on ESPN Sunday July 20th.
Kansas coach Bill Self and recent NBA-draftee Mario Chalmers will attend the banquet on Kansas’ behalf. Justin Timberlake will host the show.
