A federal jury ruled Monday that Joe-College.com, 734 Massachusetts Street, must pay the University $127,337 and stop selling 50 T-shirt styles because of trademark infringement.
The University originally alleged more than 200 of the store’s shirts violated KU’s trademarks, and asked for about $500,000. The ruling pleased Kansas Athletics Department despite its shortfall.
“This is an important victory for the University of Kansas, its reputation and its students,” said Kansas athletics director Lew Perkins.
Perkins said the ruling would help Kansas maintain an important source of revenue – T-shirt sales – to help fund scholarships. Perkins said trademark revenue earned the University $1 million per year.
Joe-College.com will be allowed to sell about 75 percent of its shirts, including the “Muck Fizzou” design.

Jury rules against Joe-College.com
“This is an important victory for the University of Kansas, its reputation and its students,” said Kansas athletics director Lew Perkins. What a bunch of cr@p! The students won't see a dime of any of the t-shirt money or the BS lawsuit money. The AD Dept. are the biggest thieves on campus! Support Joe-College and boycott anything licensed by KU or the NCAA. Fair is Fair, hurt Lew where it counts, in his pocketbook.
