Kansas only lost two defensive starters from last year’s Orange Bowl Championship team in the off season to graduation and the NFL Draft but today, the Jayhawks lost two more reserves.
The football team announced that senior defensive lineman Todd Haselhorst and junior cornerback Anthony Webb would not return for the 2008 season. A release from the athletics department said Haselhorst departed to ‘tend to personal matters’ and Webb was dismissed after violating team rules.
Haselhorst was expected to compete for a starting position on the defensive line this season after serving as a key reserve last year. He recorded 17 tackles last season, including a career-high four in the 24-21 Orange Bowl victory against Virginia Tech.
Webb started nine games as a true freshman in 2006 and recorded 42 tackles but fell out of the defensive rotation his sophomore season. Webb, however, started to return punts last season and gained 16 yards on 19 punt return attempts.
