Kansas coach Bill Self couldn’t have asked for much more from his Jayhawks in an 88-74 victory against Kansas State tonight.

“I thought we played great,” Self said.
The statistics sheet supports Self’s assumption. Junior guard Brandon Rush scored 21 points on five three-pointers, sophomore guard Sherron Collins added 18 and senior guard Russell Robinson put up 14.
The Jayhawks may finally have that elusive “signature victory”. The 14-point margin of victory could be misleading because the Jayhawks completely dominated the Wildcats.
Despite freshman superstar Michael Beasley’s 39 points and 11 rebounds, Kansas State never stood a chance. Kansas jumped out to an early 32-11 lead when Beasley and his freshman cohort, Bill Walker, got into foul trouble and were forced to spend time on the bench.
Kansas State cut the lead to 41-29 at halftime but Kansas came out with just as much fire after the break. A Russell Robinson lob pass to senior forward Darnell Jackson that ended in a massive slam was the exclamation point on a 9-0 run to start the second half.
The Jayhawks never looked back and now find themselves tied at the top of the Big 12 standings with another shot at grabbing at No. 1 seed come tournament time.
