There’s a new name atop the Kansas career home runs list and it’s a familiar one when it comes to Kansas baseball: Price.
With a runner on in the top of the seventh and Kansas tied 1-1 with UMBC on Friday, senior outfielder Ryne Price sent the milestone home run to right field. The home run marked the 30th in Price’s career at Kansas.
Of course, Ryne’s older brother Ritchie holds 10 prominent records at Kansas, but Ryne can now claim one of his own. As Kansas’ new career home run leader, Price is in good company. With his home run on Friday, Price passed former Jayhawk Travis Metcalf, who played at Kansas from 2002-2004 and appeared in 57 games last season for the Texas Rangers.
Price now leads Kansas with six home runs on the season, but he’ll have to keep up the pace to retain his home run record. Price entered the season tied with senior shortstop Erik Morrison on the career home run list. Morrison homered in Kansas’ first game of the day on Friday, giving him two on the season and 26 in his career.
