Xavier Henry, an Oklahoma City shooting guard and ESPN’s No. 1 player in the nation, announced his intentions to attend Memphis next year this morning on ESPN.
Henry had narrowed his college choices down to Kansas or Memphis. He said on ESPN he chose Memphis because the chance it provided him to play with his brother, C.J. Henry.
C.J. originally committed to Kansas out of high school in 2004. The New York Yankees, however, drafted him in the Major League Baseball Entry Draft and he decided to play minor league baseball instead.
After three years, C.J. Henry decided he wanted to go back to college and play basketball. Instead of Kansas, he chose Memphis.
Xavier said his brother’s decision would not affect his choice leading up to his announcement. It appears, however, Xavier changed his mind.
The early signing period for high school seniors ends this Wednesday and Kansas still has one available scholarship.
The Jayhawks primary targets are Dominic Cheek, a shooting guard from Jersey City, N.J. who rivals.com ranks as the 16th best player in the nation, and Lance Stephenson, a shooting guard from New York who rivals.com ranks as the seventh best player in the nation.
