Today, the city's sales tax increased from 7.3 percent to 7.85 percent. The money from the increase will help pay to repair streets and fund city transit.
As result of last November's election, the Lawrence city sales tax increased .55 percent, which took effect today. The increase is predicted to raise $4.1 million by the end of the year. The money will go toward fixing roads and public transportation.
So far, area business say customers haven't complained about the increase.
