Kansas' season ended in the Sweet Sixteen, but that didn't matter to Associated Press voters.
Bill Self will be presented with The Associated Press coach of the year award later today. The Jayhawks won the Big 12 regular season championship for the fifth-straight season after losing all five starters from the 2008 national championship team.
Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon finished second in the voting with 10 votes. Self received 28 votes from the 71-member panel.
Self is 169-40 after six highly successful seasons at Kansas and has a 376-145 record in 16 seasons as a head coach.
