2009 Spring Football Game
A photo gallery of the Blue vs. White Kansas spring football game Saturday afternoon.
3:32 Grab some coffee. Not much offense taking place at Memorial Stadium for either team.
3:23 Third quarter. Kerry Meier takes over at quarterback for the Blue team. Starting to see more reserves i nthe game. Meier floats a beautiful 25-yard pass to AJ Steward.
3:08 Halftime: Blue team: 17. White team: 0. Kale Pick pieced together a nice second quarter and the Blue team offense struggled. Many of the fans in attendance piled out of Memorial Stadium.
3:02 0:25 left in the second quarter. Kale Pick lobbed a 15-yard pass to Raimond Pendleton in the corner of the endzone. Capped off an 11 play, 70-yard drive. Blue team: 17, White team: 7.
2:53 Not much happening on the field but a few worthy notes. Jacques Crawford did not suit up and was not on the sideline during the game. Playing his first "game" at center, Jeremiah Hatch snapped the ball when Todd Reesing was looking to the sideline. The play resulted in a big loss. Former Kansas running back Tony Sands' son, Deshaun Sands, played for the White team. He's a diminutive runner just like his dad.
2:44 The Kansas coaching staff seems determined to run the ball with Kale Pick. He's already rushed six times, many of which were designed runs.
2:41 10:55 left in second quarter. Alonso Rojas punts the ball seven yards. Kale Pick's stat line: 2/6 passing for eight yards. Four rushes for five yards. One interception.
2:25 4:55 left in the first quarter. Jake Sharp weaves in and out of defenders for a 40-yard gain before being shoved out at the 1-yard line. Sharp capped off the drive with a touchdown run on the very next play. Blue team: 17. White team: 0.
2:18 Blue team secondary looks tough, or at the very least much better than last year. Playing with five defensive backs instead of the usual four, they forced the White team offense into some bad throws.
2:18Correction: The Blue offense is stoppable, but Jacob Branstetter kicked a 44-yard field goal to still put points on the board. Blue team: 10, White team: 0. The drive covered 53 yards in eight plays.
2:15 9:00 minutes left in first quarter. The Blue team offense - the first team - looks almost unstoppable. That's not a good sign for Kansas' second team defense.
2:10 12:12 left in the first quarter. Quarterback Todd Reesing completes 10-yard pass to Jonathan Wilson to cap off 6-play 66-yard drive. Wide Reciever Dezmon Briscoe is not playing.
1:36 Kerry Meier is wearing a red jersey normally reserved for quarterbacks. While Meier is still listed as Kansas' backup quarterback, it will be interesting to see how much time he sees at wide receiver.
