The party was smaller this year, but the hopes were higher. As a result, so was the disappointment.
About 15 students gathered for the Students of Liberty watch party Thursday afternoon, joking, drinking and waiting for the announcement of the winning coalition.
Adam Wood, Lawrence senior and Students of Liberty presidential candidate, said he thought the controversies surrounding the coalitions made for a race in which anything could happen.
“I’m putting everyone on an equal level,” Wood said before the results were announced.
If Wood was going to put money on any result, he said, it would be that United Students would lose.
Students of Liberty presidential candidate, Adam Wood, Lawrence junior, dejectedly watches as election results are announced on Thursday afternoon at Wood's apartment.
When the election was called for United Students, Wood and others expressed great surprise.
“I just don’t understand,” Wood said. “It just goes to show, money wins elections.”
Wood and vice-presidential candidate Johnathan Wilson, Paola junior, said they would try to get replacement senate seats and focus their groups efforts at the national level.
“Students of Liberty will win somewhere,” Wood said. “I hope it’s KU next year.”
Students of Liberty lost the election with 339 total votes, or six percent, overall.

Adam Wood suffers another election loss
I look forward to seeing both of you in Senate, Adam and John.

Adam Wood suffers another election loss
Why won't Adam admit that he's abrasive and nobody likes him?
Adam Wood suffers another election loss
I know plenty of people who like him. He is not a people pleaser and you have to take him as he is, but he's a good friend and a pretty deep thinker. There is nothing wrong with someone who is not a politician going into politics.
Adam Wood suffers another election loss
Yeah, well, his Ron Paul antics on Wescoe last year will forever brand him as "That crazy Libertarian."
Adam Wood suffers another election loss
Can anyone say election fraud!!!?? This election was completely rigged and Adam Wood really is a cool guy who knows what he is doing! I wanted to keep my student fees low and have a coalition in office that would actually get something accomplished, but it looks like we are stuck with another year of hiking student fees and wasteful spending!!! I read the UDK and I know that united Students did not win legitimately this year! Congratulations on a cheap victory!

Nobody likes, or wants, libertarian government. This has been proven time and time again. There's something to be said for third-parties running but they should not be surprised when they lose. Libertarianism, at its core, goes against human nature (ie, desire to form and participate in societies)

I think you misunderstand the meaning of libertarianism, Samuel. As a neocon I'm not a libertarian myself, but I am at least aware that they don't want to dissolve the government or not participate in society.
Perhaps if we all decided to only comment on things we know about or even attempt to reflect the facts and not exaggerate when we do so, we would improve political conversation.

Adam, I am truley sorry for your lots.

That's unfortunate. I believe in giving everyone a chance to express his or her opinion and then will express my reasoning for or against it.
