A student was sexually assaulted in the 600 block of New Hampshire and others were robbed in outside of McCollum Hall.
A 20-year-old female KU student was sexually assaulted early Friday, Lawrence police said.
The woman was walking south in the 600 block of New Hampshire Street around 1 a.m. when she was attacked from behind by two white men, said to be in their 20s with short hair.
Lawrence police Sgt. Michael Monroe said the woman was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The woman said she was knocked to the ground before being sexually assaulted. After the assault, the suspects fled the scene heading south, Monroe said.
Police are still searching for the suspects and urge anyone with information relating to the crime to call the police department at (785) 832-7509 or leave an anonymous message on the TIPS hot line at (785) 832-TIPS.

Connerm, women should be able to walk alone regardless of the time of day. I've gone running here at 4 in the morning before and never felt unsafe. I'm female and walk down town by myself at night all time, often from my ATM then to the bars.
Men like you who suggest that women should know better than to be out that late by themselves make men who do this feel justified in their actions. A woman never asks to be sexually assaulted.

Yeah, most people should probably use the buddy system after 11:30. Maybe even earlier. It doesn't prevent all crimes, but it's a nice deterrent.

Way to take a statement out of proportion, fineandmellow. "Men like me" are enraged by this kind of violence and would like to see it stamped out. One of the most effective ways to do so is deterrence by travelling in groups. The best way to stop these idiots is by never giving them an opportunity in the first place.

I personally am concerned that I look on Kansan.com on Monday and see a student died, a student was raped and another held at gun point. Yikes! Crime has spiked on campus this semester. I mean crime was high last spring too, but that was associated with the national championship game and it was not life or death situations like this. This is turning out to be the wrong semester to retire the campus saftey fee . . .
