The Lawrence Humane Society keeps busy all year round in part because of animal cruelty. The society sees an average of 500 cases of animal cruelty a year.

Despite the cute, cuddly playful qualities adored by pet lovers, there are still those who do harm to animals.
Animal cruelty has received generous amounts of media exposure as the economy has continued to affect those who can no longer afford to care for their pets.
