Chanukah, the eight-day Jewish celebration that officially begins the Hanukkah season, begins at sunset today, and Jewish University students have filled the first weekend of the holiday with celebration.
To start, the Chabad Jewish Center student group is hosting a “Chanukah Bowl” at 7:30 on Saturday with food and prizes student that all students can attend, said Zalman Tiechtel, rabbi of the group group.
“It’s one of those holidays where it’s always a big fun holiday, a big joyous holiday,” Tiechtel said. “Bowling is a great way to celebrate in a big, fun way.”
The group will continue its celebration of the winter holiday with a lighting ceremony that features a 6-foot ice menorah at South Park at 6 p.m. on Sunday and a late-night breakfast at the Chabad Jewish Center at 11 p.m. on Monday. All three events, Tiechtel said, are free and open to students.
