Police are still searching for one suspect in Thursday evening’s string of alleged robberies at McCollum Hall, the KU Public Safety Office announced today. Two 19-year-old men of Kansas City, Kan., were arrested Thursday.
At about 8:10 p.m. one suspect allegedly entered a room in McCollum and took a resident’s laptop, valued at $800. One of the residents was in the room at the time. At about 9:15 p.m. another McCollum resident reported to police that someone entered his room and took his cell phone from his hands, valued at $200.
Officers saw a suspect leaving the area at 9:25 p.m. The suspect refused to stop for the officers. After a brief pursuit, officers stopped following him. Officers said they believed the suspects then returned to Daisy Hill.
At about 9:30 p.m., someone allegedly entered another resident’s room and threatened the victim with a hammer. The suspect then allegedly stole a pair of shoes, valued at $310.
Capt. Schuyler Bailey said the officers spotted the same vehicle again at about 10:15 p.m. As the suspects attempted to flee Daisy Hill, the vehicle wrecked near the intersection of 15th Street and Engel Road.
David Wayne Banks was immediately arrested at the scene of the wreck on charges of reckless driving and attempting to elude police. Lonnie Ray Neal was arrested a few minutes later following a brief foot chase on charges of robbery and aggravated escape from custody, Bailey said.
