Junior guard Mario Little will play the rest of the season and not apply for a redshirt.
Little missed the first 12 games of the season with a stress fracture in his lower left leg and a broken left hand. He played Kansas’ last three games, scoring three points and recording eight rebounds in 22 minutes.
But Little had a decision to make before Tuesday’s game against Kansas State. If he played in any conference games, he would not be eligible to be a redshirt this season.
Little practiced full-speed Monday to assess how his body would respond. He felt fine.
“Mario slept on it after yesterday’s practice and this morning informed me he feels great and definitely wants to play and help this year’s team,” Kansas coach Bill Self said in a statement.
Little, the Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year, was projected to start at small forward this season for the Jayhawks. But Self is pleased with how sophomore guard Brady Morningstar has played at the position so far. Little will continue to come off of the bench.
