Kansas escapes with a 66-61 victory

KANSAS 19, COLORADO 9

11:48 left in the first half

Kansas is rolling at both ends of the court and Colorado can't seem to do anything about it.

Despite playing with a facemask to protect his broken nose, Cole Aldrich is having his way under the basket. Aldrich already has 11 points and six rebounds.

Defensively, the Jays are holding the Buffs to 2-of-12 shooting and the home team has four more rebounds. This one wasn't supposed to be close, and so far it's gone to script.

3 p.m.

It's pretty clear where I'm going with this prediction, but I may as well put a number on it.

In one of its most boring games of the season, Kansas wins 84-60. Cory Higgins is great, but it won't be enough to make any kind of difference today.

On a side note, Higgins' father, Rod, is sitting next to us on press row. Rod used to play in the NBA and he's now a scout for the Charlotte Bobcats. It'll be interesting to see if he respects the no cheering on press row rule.

2:45 p.m.

Kansas' last few games have been sloppy. Today's will get downright ugly.

When these teams met in Boulder, Kansas let Colorado hang around for most of the second half before finally pulling away for a 17-point victory.

Today the spread has the Jays favored by 22, and I expect them to blow past that. For one, Kansas hasn't played a home game for almost two weeks and it will be fired up to be in front of a partisan crowd again.

The other reason that Kansas will roll is pretty simple: Colorado stinks. The Buffs are arguably the worst team in the Big 12 while the Jays are the class of the North and may end up with the regular season title.

Let's put it this way, Conner Teahan and Matt Kleinmann should see some playing time today.
