Attorneys for the city of Lawrence and the owners of 821 Club, 821 S. Iowa St., will meet in court August 28 to determine the future of the nightclub.
Susan Wolfe, administrative assistant at the Douglas County District Court, said the hearing would involve a “motion to enforce judgement” of a decision made by the court in December that ruled the club did not have the proper zoning to act as a nightclub. The hearing will determine whether the owners have made the necessary changes to bring the club up to code and if not, the city will move for shutting the club down.
The owners of the club had been asked to bring the parking lot and other areas up to city code. City officials said the owners had not complied.
Previously known as the Moon Bar and Club Axis, the site of 821 Club has also experienced violence in the past. Two shootings occurred there this year, one during the first week of July and the other in March.
The hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. August 28.
