Not all students have similar study habits. Some thrive on the background noise and chatter of crowded places, while others prefer rooms so quite they could hear a pin drop. The Kansan interviewed a range of students who have already found their study niches outside of their dorm rooms or apartments.
Ann Poeschel, El Dorado senior
“I like Watson. It’s not as loud as Anschutz. It feels more like a library, and there’s better materials for research available.”
Aaron Keck, Manhattan junior
“I like Anschutz’s ambiance. It’s distracting. There’s lots of talking. I like a noisy environment.”
Amber Atkins, Overland Park junior
“I like the side rooms in Budig. It’s quiet and it’s in a building so it doesn’t matter what it’s like outside.”
Alyssa Passmore, Overland Park junior
“I like studying on the picnic tables outside the Underground. I can smoke cigarettes and people-watch, and it’s fairly quiet.”
Jennifer Walker, Topeka sophomore
“Anschutz is great late at night. It feels like a big adventure. I’ve stayed there until four or five in the morning. With all the people there, it doesn’t make the fact that you have to stay up so late to study seem so bad.”
Casey Shreve, Gardner senior
“Wescoe is horrifying for studying. There’s a lot of foot traffic and people trip over you.”
Bryant Hadley, Wichita senior
“I like to study by Potter lake. It’s just so serene. But there’s the squirrel mafia you have to watch out for. They can chase you down.”
Katelynn Poore, Topeka sophomore
“I study on the swingsets in South Park. I love to swing while I educate myself.”
Angela Wright, St. Louis senior
Speaking about the Bourgeois Pig: “I like the Pig’s back porch. It’s a cozy environment and my energy flows there and they serve really good sangria. And I can smoke, too.”
Eun Jae Lee, South Korea senior
“On campus, I like to study in Budig. It’s big. I like to study with a lot of students. Off campus, I like to study at Signs of Life. I can use the free Internet and it’s cozy.”
L.D. Williams, El Dorado senior
“When I study on campus, I usually study in Anschutz. It’s open all the time and I usually study at night. I’ve always been able to find what I need there.”
