Mississippi Street will be closed from the intersection of Jayhawk Boulevard to Memorial Drive March 16 through March 22 because of sanitary sewer preparation work.
The sewer work is part of the preparation of the second phase of KU utility tunnels.
Mike Krings, a staff member of university relations, said the area would be closed during spring break instead of a regular school week to accommodate students.
“It’s a good time to do this because there will be fewer university students, faculty and staff on campus.” Krings said.
The section of the street will be reopened before the end of spring break.
