No one wanted to forget about defense. But there really wasn’t a choice. The regular season opener at Allen Fieldhouse swiveled heads of fans back and forth like a seesaw with loose hinges.

Kansas Women's Basketball vs. Oral Roberts
The Jayhawks opened their 2009-10 regular season on Sunday, Nov. 15 against Oral Roberts. Behind 27 points from senior guard Danielle McCray and 24 points from sophomore forward Aishah Sutherland, Kansas defeated Oral Roberts 106-80.
Kansas beat Oral Roberts 106-80 in a contest of who could get to hoop faster. Like cheetahs hunting their prey, point guards charged to the hoop with no time to waste. Defenses pressured the ball right off the inbound pass with lengthy barriers of arms and legs. Forwards chugged along like marathoners on their last mile. It was an arduous test to the legs and Kansas prevailed.
Senior guard Danielle McCray backed up the preseason hype as she finished with 27 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 blocks.
Sophomore forward Aishah Sutherland and junior guard Krysten Boogaard served as a forceful one-two punch in the paint, as together they finished with 33 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks.
After surviving their first test of the regular season, the Jayhawks will head to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes in a clash of the Big 10 vs. the Big 12.
