Men's basketball rides 37-15 lead into halftime

The No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks’ first half against Central Arkansas revealed a significantly different offensive performance than their last outing against Memphis at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

Eight of the 10 Kansas players to earn minutes on the court have scored points. Senior guard Sherron Collins leads all scorers with seven points on 2 for 5 shooting and has guided the team to its 37-15 halftime lead over Central Arkansas.

The focal point of the game, however, has been Kansas’ complete defensive domination of Central Arkansas. The Jayhawks seem to have stepped up their already impressive defensive intensity, which was showcased against Memphis, in the first half. Throughout the opening period the Jayhawks have allowed the Bears to score only 15 points on 5 of 26 shooting. That signifies a very low 19.2 percentage for Central Arkansas. Kansas has also forced the Bears to turn the ball over 10 times, which has led to several impressive Kansas plays in transition.

After Kansas freshman guard Elijah Johnson stole the ball from Central Arkansas senior forward Mitch Rueter with seven and a half minutes to play in the half, Johnson drove the length of the court and got a tough layup in traffic while also drawing a foul.

On the other end of the spectrum, Kansas has only turned the ball over a total of three times, heavily contributing to its 22-point halftime lead.
