The Kansas Jayhawks women’s basketball team lost its second straight game away from Allen Fieldhouse — a 74-69 loss to the Texas Christian Horned Frogs.
Kansas held a four-point lead, 67-63, over TCU with about one and a half minutes remaining. From there, though, it all fell apart.
The Horned Frogs scored five unanswered points in the next 45 seconds to take a one-point advantage.
Junior center Krysten Boogaard supplied the response for Kansas by laying in a tough basket in traffic for a one-point advantage with less than 30 seconds remaining.
The Horned Frogs then brought the ball up the court, looking for an open shot before taking and missing a three pointer. In the scuffle for the rebound, Kansas managed to snare the ball. In an ill advised move, though, a Jayhawks player called for a time out. A time out the Jayhawks didn’t have.
That action resulted in a technical foul, and TCU knocked down two free throws to score the last points it would need to upset No. 18/23 Kansas.
Boogaard led the Jayhawks in scoring with 21 points, but she was atrocious from the charity stripe. She missed 9 of her 14 attempts from the free throw line.
Boogaard and the rest of the Jayhawks frontcourt failed to take advantage of their superior size throughout the game as the Horned Frogs out rebounded the Jayhawks 34 to 33.
The loss drops Kansas to 3-2 on the season and as is the team's second loss in the Bahamas for the Junkanoo Jam Basketball Tournament. The Jayhawks will next be in action Thursday, Dec. 3 against the UCLA Bruins in the Fieldhouse.
