The Lawrence Police Department said a University student was arrested early Thursday on charges of aggravated assault, battery, disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing after a disagreement with employees at The Hawk.
Sgt. Michael Monroe said the 21-year-old student was vomiting outside the establishment, located at 1340 Ohio St., shortly after 1 a.m., when employees asked him to leave. The student responded aggressively and displayed a pocket sized fold-out knife with the blade extended.
A group of friends escorted the student off the property and into a nearby alley. However, employees of the bar soon noticed that the student had returned and they asked him to leave once again. The student responded aggressively again and battered one of the employees, although no serious injuries were reported. Employees of the bar restrained the student while they dialed police.
Lawrence police arrested the student and booked him into Douglas County Jail at 1:39 a.m. The student had not yet been released as of Thursday evening.

Police say student arrested at the Hawk
Surely this guy deserved to go to jail, especially if he displayed a knife. The following comment does not reflect last night's incident, which I know nothing about, except for what's written above.
I've witnessed brutality by The Hawk employees on drunk students before, with police compliance. I watched a drunk student get beaten senseless by the ownerof The Hawk after he drunkenly spit on the manager's shoes. About five of The Hawk employees manhandled the student to carry him outside. He naturally resisted. The owner came out, pushed the kid to the ground and punched him in the face five times until he was unconscious.
The police showed up, asked the owner what happened, handcuffed the student and put him in the back of the cop car. The student was completely senseless and crying.
My girlfriend and I tried to explain the brutality to the Lawrence police officers on the scene. They refused to take a report and laughed at the situation. It was horrifying.
I have never gone to The Hawk again, nor do I ever plan to. The students that work there are on ridiculous power trips. The city is complacent with anyone being allowed in there with the worst excuses of fake ids.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. The Hawk is a great place, especially if you are an 18 year old female with your sisters old DL, or maybe if you like it when you stand in one place for more than 5 seconds and your shoes are permanently stuck to the floor.
