Final: Nebraska takes down Kansas 20-3

PREGAME

We're 11 minutes from kickoff in the final game between the Kansas Jayhawks and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The two teams have met for a record 105 consecutive times, beginning in 1906.

The last time Kansas beat Nebraska in Lincoln was in 1968.

1st QUARTER

After a huge return by D.J. Beshears to start the game, Kansas goes for it on 4th and 6th at Nebraska's 36 yard line and Mecham is sacked for a loss of six yards. Turnover on downs.

Kansas' second possession of the game ends with a Mecham sack deep in their own territory on third down and 6. The Jayhawks punt this time on fourth down.

Mecham is sacked for the third time this game on third down. Jayhawks punt again.

7-0

Nebraska scores on a four yard touchdown run by Rex Burkhead with :30 to play in the 1st quarter.

2nd Quarter

Kansas starts off with the ball but goes three and out.

With 6:45 to go in the second quarter, Kansas' defense has been admirable. Has only given up two plays over 20 yards and one touchdown. On offense, receivers have struggled to get open.

14-0

A 20 yard touchdown run by Roy Helu Jr. puts the Cornhuskers up 14-0 with 3:05 to play in the second quarter.

Kansas has hung in this game. Lack of offense and lack of success on third down has hurt.

Kansas will get the ball with 1:05 to go in the half.

Halftime

Kansas is down 14-0 at halftime. The defense has been good, giving up only 197 yards and two scores in the first half. Offense only has 47 total yards.

Third Quarter

Kansas will kick off to Nebraska to start the second half.

Tyler Patmon intercepts Taylor Martinez and returns the ball eight yards to the Kansas 44 yard line. It is Patmon's second interception in as many games.

17-0

With 6:46 remaining in the third quarter, Nebraska kicks a field goal to make it 17-0. Kansas offense has done nothing. Total yards have decreased by five since halftime.

After a Nebraska interception and then a fumble on it's next play, Kansas recovers and takes over at the Nebraska 47 yard line. 4:47 to go in the third quarter.

17-3

With 2:36 to go in the third quarter, Jacob Branstetter kicks a 42 yard field goal to put the Jayhawks on the board.

Fourth Quarter

Kansas has the ball at their own 30 yard line to begin the fourth quarter down 17-3.

Nebraska is running the clock out. With 4:15 to go in the fourth quarter, the score remains 17-3.

20-3

Alex Henery kicks a 20 yard field goal to make it 20-3 Nebraska with 3:39 remaining in the game.

Final

Nebraska defense held Kansas to only 3 points as the Cornhuskers defeat Kansas for the last time as members of the Big 12.
