The game lasted all seven innings, but really it was decided in one of them.
No. 15 Baylor needed only a six-run second inning to dismantle Kansas as the Jayhawks fell, 9-3.
What’s more is after the first run of that inning was scored, the Bears had five unearned runs all because of a Jayhawk error. The Jayhawks made the game closer than the score suggests, but they couldn’t recuperate.
Kansas loaded the bases twice, once in the sixth and again in the seventh, but couldn’t get a run in either situation.
Left fielder Maggie Hull did all she could hitting 3-for-4, contributing to the first scores of the game off a two-run home run in the fifth. She was the only Kansas player with multiple hits.
Pitcher Alex Jones hasn’t pitched much recently but started the game. She gave up one earned run, but only lasted one and two-thirds of an inning.
Game two of the series is Sunday at noon at Arrocha Ballpark.
