Homecoming Theme
The KU homecoming committee has decided on next year's theme. KUJH TV reporter Taylor Williamson has the details.
The Homecoming Steering Committee announced the official theme for the 2011 homecoming Monday afternoon.
The theme “From Lawrence with Love” was one of nearly 30 themes the steering committee had to choose from. Other popular themes the members of the steering committee proposed included “Jayhawk Jackpot,” “Masquerade on Mass. Street” and “Jayhawks of the Future.”
In the end, “From Lawrence with Love” proved to be the committee’s favorite, in large part because of its versatility.
“People can take it a lot of different ways, and it has a lot of potential for floats,” said Andy Kriegh, publicity co-chair and a junior from Lawrence. “It was a theme idea that came up last year but that just didn’t make the cut.”
Homecoming Week is scheduled to begin Sept. 24 and end with the football game against Texas Tech Oct. 1.
Homecoming has been a tradition at the University since 1912, and choosing a homecoming theme has been a tradition since 1956. Last year’s theme was “Rock Chalk Roadtrip.”
