The University confirmed this afternoon that Hallie Steele, a sophomore in communications from Lenexa, died early this morning.
According to a Facebook page in her name, which is filed with messages of condolences, Steele went to Shawnee Mission West High School. She was 20 years old.
Channel 6 News reported that Steele collapsed at the Beaumont Club in Kansas City, Mo., then transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Steele worked on a Channel 6 entertainment show, according to its website.
Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little issued a statement in a media release this afternoon:
"On behalf of the KU community, I offer deepest condolences to the family and friends of Hallie Steele. Our thoughts are with them at this time of loss."

Sophomore Hallie Steele dies, reportedly in Kansas City
I don't know her circumstances but I was there last night and it's just plain irresponsible that the owner of Beaumont didn't have cool air circulating. Everyone walked out of the place drenched in their sweat. I felt dehydrated myself and I had at least four bottles of water after originally having a couple drinks. My hands were pruned up like I'd been sitting in the tub from the constant dripping of sweat down my arms. I'm honestly surprised more people didn't collapse from heat exhaustion.

My condolences to the family as well, but to the person commenting above: If conditions are that bad, why the hell would you go there? If you get there and it's like you say, then leave and go somewhere else - but i suspect you knew it would be like that before you went.

No I've been to many concerts and I've never experienced that much heat. After waiting months for a favorite artists to show up you'd just leave? No one ever thinks it will be them that dies because of something like heat exhaustion. Someone running a club should know better and be more responsible for their patrons. If anything more respective of them paying $25+ to get in and provide a comfortable atmosphere. I had a great time despite the heat but this could of happened to anyone because the club owner chose not to provide adequate cooling.

She fell and hit her head. This had nothing to do with heat exhaustion.
